Rumour
CONFIRMED

Javi Leal replaces injured Galán in Spain’s World Cup squad

First reported October 30, 2026 · last verified October 30, 2026

Confirmed: see the Updates section below for the confirming announcement.

Javi Leal will take Alejandro Galán’s place in Spain’s squad for the FIP World Cup in Qatar. The Spanish federation has confirmed Galán’s medical withdrawal and named Leal as his replacement in Juanjo Gutiérrez’s team for the tournament in Doha from 2–7 November. The squad change is now official.

Galán had already missed the Kuwait Major while trying to recover. Reports have described discomfort in his right hand, but the federation’s withdrawal announcement and his own public message do not disclose a precise diagnosis or a return date. There is therefore no confirmed timetable for his next competitive appearance.

In his message, Galán thanked the medical professionals he had consulted and acknowledged Federico Chingotto’s understanding and support. He expressed his frustration at being unable to help the national team, while making clear he would be supporting Spain from outside the squad. For Leal, the call-up brings an opportunity to step into Spain’s World Cup campaign.
