Milano P1: A second-set escape keeps Coello and Tapia’s winning run alive

By Courtsider · October 19, 2026

Three break points stood between a first-set defeat and a much steeper climb for Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. They saved all three, then turned the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 final around to beat Leo Augsburger and Juan Lebron 4-6 6-3 6-2. At the Allianz Cloud, the champions had been pushed behind before finding a way back.

The opening set belonged to Augsburger and Lebron, who broke in the fifth game. But their opportunity to take control of the second slipped away in its third game. From 15-40, Coello and Tapia protected their serve, surviving a further break point before breaking themselves in the following game. A final that had been moving towards the challengers changed direction.

Coello and Tapia took the second set 6-3 and broke again at the beginning of the decider. The closing set finished 6-2, completing their recovery from a set down. For Augsburger and Lebron, winning the opener had proved insufficient; for the top seeds, the recovery delivered the trophy.

The route to Sunday had offered contrasting tests. Coello and Tapia beat Jon Sanz and Franco Stupaczuk 6-4 6-3 in the Semi-final, denying the fourth seeds another final appearance. Before that, they had overcome Francisco Guerrero and Javier Leal 6-2 6-2 in the Quarter-final. Their Round of 16 win over Jose Jimenez and Alejandro Arroyo had come by the same score.

Augsburger and Lebron’s Semi-final was far less straightforward. Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto took its first set 6-0, only to lose the next two 6-2 6-2. The third seeds therefore arrived in the final after overturning a deficit themselves. On Sunday, the roles reversed: they took the lead, then saw their opponents recover.

Their Quarter-final had brought a 7-6 6-3 victory over Javier Garrido and Juan Ignacio De Pascual, with the opening tie-break going 7-1. Galan and Chingotto, meanwhile, had beaten Gonzalo Alfonso and Tino Libaak 6-3 7-6 in the last eight, taking that tie-break 7-4. Those results set up Saturday’s meeting, but a perfect opening set did not secure Galan and Chingotto a place in the title match.

The women’s title went to Ariana Sanchez Fallada and Andrea Ustero Prieto, who defeated Paula Josemaria Martin and Beatriz Gonzalez Fernandez 7-6 6-3, winning the tie-break 7-3. Sanchez and Ustero had reached the final by beating Gemma Triay Pons and Delfina Brea Senesi 6-1 6-4. Sanchez’s victory brought her career total to 58 titles, level with Triay and Ale Salazar, according to the official final report.
